Jose Mourinho insists Japan’s historic 2-1 victory against Germany was ‘NOT a crazy surprise’

‘Of course it was a fantastic achievement, but to be honest it wasn’t a crazy surprise.

‘Japan is a good team and has good players, is getting a good accumulation of experience at these events. The majority of the players play in Europe where they develop a lot faster and understand better what is the high level.

‘And I think the mentality of the players and the team can make also a difference. I think at this moment in European football there is a big focus on the individual, big focus on egos.’

Callum Wilson would RELISH being England’s leading man

When, at the start of this season, Callum Wilson marked Sunday November 13 as ‘Pack for Qatar’ in his diary, he would have probably jotted ‘Start against USA’ on Friday November 25.

Not because he forecast an injury to Harry Kane, more so because he backs himself to beat, what to others at least, would appear insurmountable odds.

While recovering from a hamstring injury in September and asked by his Newcastle team-mates where he was spending the mid-season break, the striker would reply: ‘Qatar.’

Kyle Walker knows he can overcome anything football throws at him

Kyle has been discussing the events that shaped his life when, suddenly, he pauses. There is a need to answer the question he has been asked with care and consideration and he wants to be precise.

Once he begins to speak, the requirement for patience becomes apparent. Manchester City’s right back is revisiting his childhood in Sheffield and explaining how three incidents he saw enable him to apply perspective to moments and situations that some could deem challenging.

The talk begins when he is reminded that, one day, he arrived home from school to find a woman walking around the vicinity of his home wearing a motorcycle helmet and carrying an axe. The direction the conversation takes quickly makes it clear this was not the worst thing he saw.
